American Muslim
Perspective

Can love drive out hate?

Please join us to learn about Rais’ courageous story of compassion, love at forgiveness at AMV’s Peace Convention on December 11th 2011.

AMV will bring together Muslim scholars, featured speakers, panelists, award recipients and a diverse crowd of people in order to highlight the importance of community and peace building in America.

This year our convention theme is “Awakening the American Spirit: Turning the Tide of Hate into Love.” The convention will run from 4:00 pm until 9:00 pm and is divided into two sessions. The first session will be comprised of two parallel events:  Conversation with Muslim Scholars and Civil Rights Panel Discussion.  People often say it is naive to believe that love can overcome hate. Naive? No.

Martin Luther King, Jr. said, “Hate cannot drive out hate. Only love can do that.” Inspired by his faith, Rais Bhuiyan let love drive out hate. He forgave and tried to spare the life of the man who shot him and left him for dead.

This is but one example that American Muslim Voice will feature in Awakening the American Spirit: Turning the Tide of Hate into Love.

Conversation with Muslim Scholars

Do the following topics frequently seen in headlines concern you?

We'll discuss the USA Patriot Act, INS Special Registration, Attacks on Muslim charities, Anti-Islam FBI training, Rep. Peter King's alarmist and racist hearings, the Irvine 11 case, GPS tracking of Muslim men, Muslim women being fired for wearing a hijab, and the "Secure Communities program.

This event represents a wonderful opportunity for you to share your commitment to peace and social responsibility before an audience of over 400-500 guests as diverse as the nation itself. The AMV Peace Conventions draws people of all faith, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds together around the common goal of community and peace building by bridging the gap between all communities. This convention will also highlight the work of AMV Foundation and others in grassroots community building efforts.

We believe you will bring young Muslim woman's perspective as a moderator for our program. Please let me know if you are available to be a part of this wonderful education convention. If so, please send me your brief bio and a photo.

Sincerely,
