Bay Area Multifaith press conference to affirm civil rights of Muslim Americans
When: Wednesday, September 8, 2010
Where: First Baptist Church of Palo Alto, 305 California Avenue, Palo Alto, CA
Time: 11: A.M.
WHY: We are alarmed by continuing reports of violent acts against Muslims and opposition in some communities to the construction of mosques. We are also troubled by the news that a Gainesville, FL group called “The Dove World Outreach Center” is threatening to burn the Koran, the Muslim holy book on 9/11. The interfaith, inter-community groups will send a strong message, “Burn a Koran? Not in our town.”
Santa Clara County and Bay Area interfaith leaders will gather to stand in solidarity with their Muslim brothers and sisters and send a clear message to the world that in the Bay Area, many positive and peaceful relationships exist among people of different faiths—including Muslims.
