Sponsor a student to build peace & harmony
American Muslim Voice Foundation, a 501(c) (3) non-profit corporation focused on grass roots community and peace building. American Muslim Voice is encouraging corporations and individuals to sponsor students to attend 2011 Peace Convention.
AMV Foundation works to foster friendships among all Americans by bridging cultural and religious gaps in order to strengthen local communities and defeat Islamophobia. Through our campaigns and events we teach simple practices to collectively invest in the future of our great nation.
We encourage you to sponsor this event for the students and faculty.
Please spread the news urgently as there is limited space. Our convention will offer a unique introduction to community building, multi-faith peace coalitions, and informative panel discussions on topics relevant to Muslims today, especially young adults and students. We think this would be a great opportunity to introduce your staff and student body to some of the critical community building underway right now as a response to Islamophobia and hatred against immigrants.
Some believe that racism and hate does not exist in Bay Area but there are many incidents in schools and work places. These incidents are not reported most of the time.
Here is why we believe it is crucial for students and faculty to attend our convention:
Two weeks ago my 17 year old niece came to live with me. A few days ago she came home crying and very upset because her class mates made very negative comments about Islam and Muslims. She is in a local high school and got very inspired with our upcoming peace convention and with her teachers and staff’s permission posted flyers all over the school. One of her teachers shared the event with her class and offered extra credit to the students if they will attend the convention and write a report on it. She stated that some class fellows started making comments like Muslims are terrorists and negative comments about Islam. According to my niece the teacher tried her best to get control of the class by asking the students to stop making fun of the other people and told them that it is especially hurtful to the two Muslim students in the class. The class ended and there was no resolution but my niece went to the main office and reported the incident.
I am sharing this with all of you so we can assess the situation and focus more on building relations with our fellow Americans. Most likely these students never had any interaction with Muslims and are getting their information from the media.
