American Muslim
Perspective

October 23, 2009

Thank you all for supporting me

First of all I would like to thank God for granting me a heart that can feel the pain of others and for giving me the courage to do something about it.  He blessed me with the most wonderful parents who loved me unconditionally and lived their lives with love, mutual respect, kindness and acceptance of all human beings as equals. They made their seven children their focus and devoted all their energy to help them grow up to be caring human beings.

I accept this award humbly as a blessing from God and as a testament to my parents'Samina 10-15-2009 accomplishments. It is never an accomplishment of one individual whenever you see someone doing extraordinary things. The whole village raises a child to be the best they can be. There are so many people who have helped me throughout my life to be where I am today. It is through their love, wisdom, support and guidance that I am able to do the work through American Muslim Voice. American Muslim Voice was established in July 2003 to foster friendships among all Americans by bridging the cultural and religious gap. We are walking on the path Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. paved for us to build an inclusive beloved and peaceful world. We encourage all of you to join our global campaign, “The Miracle Movement of Peace and Friendship.” We invite you to make American Muslim Voice your organization. Together we can build a world we can be proud to leave for our future generations. I consider the human race to be my extended family and would like nothing better than to live in a nation where all of us are accepted, loved, respected, cherished and safe. We can replace the culture of despair, division and violence with a culture of hope, inclusion and peace.

I would like to thank the sponsors of the event, the person who nominated me, my esteemed fellow nominees for the wonderful work they do, all of you who voted for me and most of all, I would like to thank the AMV Board and volunteers to be the invisible support for our work. I would not be able to do anything without them. I would also like to thank my siblings, my friends and my wonderful children, Misbah and Saqib for their love and support.

Global Exchange logoI am grateful to Global Exchange for recognizing and valuing AMV’s work, and putting their trust in our future. We strongly believe in the power of human connection and we will be able to break all barriers through these simple social and educational events like open homes, peace picnics and cultural events. We will become a gentle force once we build strong bonds and friendships among us. Peace is possible through friendships.

Best regards,
Samina F. Sundas,

AMV Foundation was founded in July 2003 by American Muslims to work for and with all Americans. We work with all Muslim, multi-faith, community organizations/ groups and individuals that share our vision of a peaceful, harmonious and inclusive world. The Miracle Movement of Peace and Friendship is but a part of AMV Foundation’s mission. We are striving to foster friendships among all Americans by bridging the cultural and religious gap. We are a grassroots, nonviolent and inclusive organization dedicated to preserving and protecting civil liberties and constitutional rights for all. We believe that working alongside neighbors and strangers towards a shared goal - strengthening the fibers of our world and eradicating cultural fault lines - forges bonds and often sparks friendships. AMV Foundation is also committed to builds alliances & genuine partnerships with like-minded groups and individuals.
